Spring in New York
Ohio Winters are difficult—and that’s saying something, considering I grew up in Chicago. There’s just something about the constant gray skies from November to March. My appreciation for the Spring has grown. I’m desperate for color, sunshine, and life growing from the depths of the earth to grace us with its presence so suddenly and beautifully.
It was early Spring when TK and I ventured off to New York City for a weekend away. The trees were just budding and blooming; the tulips and daffodils were popping up to say hello; and the songs of the birds filled the air throughout Central Park.
When TK and I arrived in NYC, we felt the rebirth. As did so many others.
The Food
It was not but just a few hours before we had settled in with delicious bites and a jolt of sweets and espresso. After settling into our go-to apartment rental in Greenwich Village, we wandered over to Dante off Hudson Street where we indulged in spring salad, roasted cauliflower, Dante’s Signature Tiramisu, and specialty cocktails.
For the rest of the weekend, we explored new and old favorites, including: Wo Hop, il Buco, Olio e Più, Buvette (my favorite breakfast spot), Sunday in Brooklyn, and more.
The Met
I could have spent an entire weekend getting lost in the galleries and halls of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. With just a morning planned, we chose a handful of corners to explore: Greek & Roman Art, European Sculpture & Decorative Arts, Medieval Art, Arms & Armor, and the Egyptian Arts.
Some of my favorite moments, as you’ll be able to tell from the moments captured below, were the sculpture art. I’ve never walked into a space and literally let my jaw drop. I didn’t know where to start, there was so much to look at. From Perseus with the Head of Medusa to The Three Graces and statue of Aphrodite… I’m still in awe of the incredible gifts of the artists who brought these stories to life with their hands, a few tools and materials. The incredible detail… I’m astounded as I think about these moments and share them with you.
I’ve always loved the arts, it’s part of me. But the art of sculpting brought me to stillness and wonder.
The Sights
And as every trip to NYC goes, we wandered through the streets, stumbling into corners of history and beauty and life until it was time to depart.
