The Night We Made Pasta

Learning to make pasta for the first time is always an adventure. It was a Wednesday night when three neighbors gathered at the dining table to assemble their first Italian dish with a variety of sides. From a yolk avalanche to burning cheese in the oven, the evening was not devoid of comedic mishaps (which we prefer to think of as learning opportunities).

In the end, we discovered how to knead a proper pasta dough ball, roll it out, and hand-crank until a beautiful pile of noodles gathered beneath the pasta maker. The three of us literally clapped and cheered for joy as each round of pasta was complete.

After many hours of preparation and cooking, we gathered around the table to enjoy the fruits of our labor—it was a feast of deliciousness!

Thank you to Carolyn & Gracie for allowing me the chance to document our wonderful evening.

If I ever need a new recipe, I know who to go to—Carolyn’s collection of cookbooks is unreal.

Lesson No. 1: Make your flour crater deep enough for your egg.

You’ll notice the instant potatoes in the corner…our efforts were heavily invested in getting the pasta right. Plus, these potatoes are some of the best ready-made sides I’ve ever had.

What You Won’t See

Burning our cheese hors d’oeuvre; a yolk avalanche; a sneaky pup looking for scraps; and the mound of dishes post cooking.

What You Will See

Laughter, well-kneaded dough; wine; Aperol; a beautiful & successful meal; and of course, friendship.

Bon Appétit

Cheers to trying new things; not burning the house down; and true friendship.
